This exercise is designed to help check for understanding for the vocabulary portion of a chapter and/or unit. In addition to traditional vocabulary work, i.e. finding the term and writing the definition, this activity gets the students up and moving around, checks for understanding, and creates a little friendly competition as well.
To play, just divide the class into 2 teams. Next have your vocabulary terms written on seperate notecards. Then have 1 member from each team come up to the board, show each of them the term, turn on the timer, and play begins. Each student must draw out their interpretation of the term, while their team members try to guess what it is. By drawing, students must have an understanding of the term, while those guessing must also have an understanding.
Rules and specifics of the game are really up to each individual teacher and what fits their needs.
Hopefully this idea helps create some fun for an otherwise boring part of the curriculum. |
