About Energizing the Classroom
There is so much more to teaching today than simply “teaching”. Prepping for multiple courses, grading papers, duties, coaching, class advising, lack of parental support, limited administrative support, etc, etc, etc. All of us eventually deal with many of the mentioned distractions that make it more and more difficult to find the time to sustain a level of creativity in our classroom. Maybe you are an overwhelmed beginner who lacks the resources and sometimes the ideas to engage students. You are too busy learning the curriculum, worrying about tenure, and drowning in paperwork to find time to liven up the classroom. Perhaps you are the dedicated teacher that is always willing to try new ideas and will constantly search to keep your class “fresh”. You love what you do and any additional sources of information are welcome. If perchance you are the veteran who feels you have tried it all, whose classroom is like a time capsule illustrating the year you found your comfort level, don’t be offended by this moment of truth. You may want to try new lessons, but you are sick and tired of workshops, ideas, and new policies that your school will never follow up on. All of us can use new ideas. Something we can refer to that provides that specific "spark" or research that can enhance your classroom experience. This site does exactly that. You will not find long, detailed lesson plans at this site. This site will provide you with ways to deliver curriculum, not organize it. The best material in the world is often ignored by students because of the method it is delivered. You may even discover that after reading and implementing ideas from this site, you will begin to surprise yourself with additional ideas of your own. My goal is that the ideas mentioned on this site provide a spark for your classroom and ignite discussion amongst your faculty. The greatest resource we teachers must utilize is the ability to share ideas with one another. |
