______

Two Minute Writing

Bonnie Forrest

Students are to take out a clean sheet of paper and writing untensil of their choice.  They will write for two minutes....TWO CONTINUOUS MINUTES!  They are not allowed to stop writing, no matter what.

I give my students a topic and then tell them when to start.  Topics could include anything such as "the journey of a penny", "an egg", or "why my hair isn't purple".  The possibilities are endless.  This activity could be used with any subject material as well.

It is fun to see my students writing fast, slow, becoming frustrated, etc.  When the two minutes are up, students can read their work to each other.

The idea is to "open up" the mind, in order to let ideas flow...to basically brainstorm!
