______

Re-takes

Karen Anglehart

It's a simple thing, but I let my students take quizzes as often as they'd like; until they earn a grade they are proud of.  They have until the end of the marking period to re-take the quizzes or re-do homework, but they have to come in on their own time to do it.

It creates a bit more work for me, but I love the policy.  I get to work with students one-on-one, the kids master the material I want them to know, and it makes the students responsible for their grades.  An added bonus....talking with parents about grades is very easy as the student is in total control of their academic success.

I have found that the students who take advantage of the opportunity to re-test work harder to be successful on quizzes the first time around as they don't want to have to come in after school.  They are proud of their efforts and feel very empowered.
