Students are placed in groups of 3-4. Students are given the task to brainstorm ideas that will benefit their school or community. Once they have decided on a topic, they must discuss it with the teacher for approval. The teacher should play Devil's Advovate.
Once the students get approval they begin to develop survey questions (maybe 5 yes /5 no with short answers). After they develop the survey they need teacher approval. The teacher will demonstrate how to conduct interviews. Students should conduct 100 interviews and gather data. Students then can tabulate and interpret the data.
The final stage of this project has students creating a report about their topic along with data interpretation and recommendations. This can be submitted to the Board of Education for action.
This project encompasses problem solving, writing, math, analysis, inter-personal skills, computer applications, and professional interaction. |
